#AWM15 Post 4: POEM ABOUT THE OSTRICH
For my #AWM15 post for today, a few questions on my writing process so far:
• How much have you written in the first week?
Today, finally: a first draft of something! Thanks, in part, to the inestimable Patrick Boyle's writing suggestions (making a list of 25 words that come to mind when looking at your illustration; "battle-the-page" freewriting for 6 minutes, etc.) I now have 21 lines! They're not great, but they're certainly…weird. Always a good start!
• How do you feel about it, positive or negative?
Neutral. Too soon to tell. I do worry it doesn't yet have enough emotional urgency––that, so far, it's all texture and constraint (I made myself write something using those 25 words I brainstormed, with other rhetorical constraints mixed in).
• Do you have a set goal in mind or could all your plans change tomorrow?
I hope they change tomorrow! I hope to go back, keep the strong parts of what I have, and mess it all up.
• What's the most difficult part of writing so far?
Balancing the mind and the heart, when today was all about constraints. Gotta go back and infuse that prison cell with freedom….
