THAT'S ANNE CARSON
Ok, see that blurry, tiny woman with the no-nonsense bob, up against the beige wall, behind all those heads? THAT'S ANNE CARSON. (!!!) She came to The Society for Classical Studies' annual conference in New Orleans, along with Judith Butler, and many talented others, to read Antigonick, her translation/version of Sophocles' Antigone on Thursday night. The event was barely publicized, and, as I sat there in the very back, leaning into the aisle to catch a glimpse, it felt almost…secret. I was unabashedly star-struck. I immediately got the sweats. The reading/performance was magical, and Judith Butler does a fabulous Kreon. Somebody pinch me! I still need to be pinched! Ok, here I go, to reread everything she's ever written….
